Provides a two-year, fulltime residency program in Occupational Medicine, leading to board eligibility in this area. The program has four components:

Didactic program that leads to a MPH degree
Extensive clinical training in Occupational Medicine and other relevant sub-specialties of medicine
Field placement in diverse occupational settings
Research training

The Industrial Hygiene program is ABET accredited. The program consists of 15 credits of public health core courses, 25 credits of specialized Industrial Hygiene credits, and eight credits of EOHS electives, for a total of 48 credits. All students must complete an internship and prepare a capstone paper. The Industrial Hygiene program also has a concentration in Hazardous Substances Academic Training.

This program provides an MS degree in Occupational Safety and Health Engineering (OSHE). The goal of the OSHE program is to

Train degreed engineering graduates and safety professionals to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and resolve occupational safety and health hazards through engineering design
Advance knowledge of safety and ergonomics through faculty and student research
Provide outreach services to occupational safety and health professionals

The OSHE program resides within the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. The degree requires 36 credit hours of course work. A research-oriented thesis of 6 credits is required for the ERC students.

To train individuals in the theory, clinical, and practical application of occupational musculoskeletal ergonomics and biomechanics. The graduate program of Ergonomics and Biomechanics prepares graduate students for academic, public, and professional careers in the fields involving the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, injuries, and disabilities that result from the interaction of individuals and environmental factors. The program offers Master of Science (MS) and Doctoral (PhD) degree programs, and an Advance Certificate in Ergonomics.

Continuing Education

To provide continuing education for professionals in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, and occupational health nursing. Additional courses are provided in hazardous substances. Courses are approved for professional development and continuing education credits in the relevant fields.

Pilot Projects

Grants ranging from $5,000 to $12,000 are available to occupational health and safety researchers in OSHS/EPA Region II. Research should be in the occupational health and safety field and should focus on the NIOSH/NORA research priorities. Information regarding NORA can be found at www.cdc.gov/nora/history.html . Priority will be given to applicants from Region II Education and Research Center (ERC) and Training Program Grants (TPG) programs in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Doctoral Training

The purpose of the PhD/Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) OEHN training program is to prepare nurse leaders in OEHN. Specifically, we prepare nurse scientists (PhD) to conduct interdisciplinary occupational and environmental health focused research that will advance nursing science, inform clinical practice, and influence the education of future nursing professionals. Our DNP graduates are prepared to provide evidence-based advanced practice clinical care in OEHN, lead interdisciplinary healthcare teams in occupational health and safety, and educate future practitioners in OEHN.
