Prerequisites:
• Completion of OSHA 511
• 5 years of general safety experience OR 3 years of general safety experience
plus one of the following:
--- o A bachelor's degree in occupational safety, health, or industrial hygiene
--- o Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
--- o Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
• OSHA 511 must be completed within 7 years of taking this course

How to Register: To register, you must download and complete the Prerequisite Verification Form and submit it along with your information as a file attachment to go.rutgers.edu/verify501. A complete application must be submitted 3 weeks prior to the course start date. Your registration will be confirmed once your prerequisites are approved, and payment is received.

Audience: This course is intended for individuals in both the private and public sectors who are responsible for workplace safety and want to become authorized OSHA Outreach Trainers. Ideal participants include safety officers, managers, supervisors, and others involved in occupational safety who want to teach the 10 and 30-hour General Industry safety courses. To qualify, participants must have completed the OSHA 511 course and have at least 5 years of general industry safety experience. Note: The 30-hour OSHA outreach course is not equivalent to OSHA 511.

Exclusions: Trainees are only permitted to attend OTI Education Center Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) courses offered by an OTI Education Center within their OSHA region. If you do not live or work in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands, please consult with the training manager at koshyko@rutgers.edu prior to registering.

Course Materials: Course materials will be mailed after your registration is confirmed and payment is made. Full payment is due 10 days before the course starts. Materials and Zoom links will only be sent once payment is received.

Important: • You need to be comfortable using computer presentation software and Zoom.
• You’ll need to develop and present a power point presentation during class and pass a written exam to become an authorized trainer.
• Outreach trainers must renew their status every 4 years by attending OSHA 503 prior to their authorization expiration date.

Virtual Class Requirements:
• You must use a camera and microphone throughout the course.
• Test your Zoom setup ahead of time. We suggest joining the class 15-30 minutes
early to check your video and audio.
