Managing Existing and Emerging Hazardous Energy Threats in the Workplace [Zoom]
Dates: July 10, 2026
Meets: 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM
Location: Offered through Zoom- Virtual Learning Platform
Registration Fee: $0.00
Course Overview
Hazardous energy is a widespread issue affecting nearly every sector, from manufacturing and construction to the rapidly growing warehousing industry. As we enter the "Fourth Industrial Revolution," smart manufacturing and robotics introduce new layers of complexity to maintenance and repair tasks. This 1-day course provides managers and employers with the essential knowledge to identify, administer and control varied sources of hazardous energy. Participants will learn how to benchmark their own Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) energy control programs against compliant models and best practices including the new and rapidly emerging threats of smart automated machinery and robotics.
Key Learning Objectives
• Fundamental Safety: Understand the hazards associated with uncontrolled energy, how human error occurs within complex systems, and how organizational weaknesses and blind spots allow those hazards to persist.
• Regulatory Compliance: Review the OSHA Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout and Tagout) standard, 29 CFR 1910.147, along with applicable consensus standards and enforcement expectations.
• Modern Challenges: Examine how increasing human interaction with smart machines, automation, and robotics introduces new risk pathways, and how risk-aversion and energy-control principles must evolve to address these emerging technologies.
• Procedural Compliance: Learn how to apply pre-task planning, code-compliant lockout and tagout procedures, and structured energy-control programs that can be used both as stand-alone kick-starters and as enhancements to existing energy-control systems.
Who should attend
