This one day refresher course is required for those who wish to continue to maintain a valid NIOSH-Approved Spirometry Training Certificate. Attendees will review recent changes in spirometry standards and guidelines published by the American Thoracic Society in 1991 and 1995. It is especially useful for clinicians who trained before these changes occurred and will foster better understanding of lung function tests. This course will provide attendees the opportunity to discuss problems not foreseen during initial spirometry training.
Audience:
Occupational health nurses, physicians, safety professionals and healthcare practitioners or other personnel involved in the performance and/or interpretation of spirometry tests. Prerequisite: The NIOSH-Approved (#043) Spirometry course. IMPORTANT: Student eligibility for the NIOSH-Approved Spirometry Refresher Course is as follows: Certificates are valid 5 years from the course date. Previously awarded certificates are no longer valid indefinitely. Individuals who choose to have a valid NIOSH certificate must either take a NIOSH-Approved Spirometry Refresher Course before the certificate is invalidated or retake the initial Course. Required Materials:
Prerequisite: Your registration is not complete until we receive a copy of your NIOSH - Approved Spirometry Training certificate. Effective January 1, 2009, NIOSH changed the time limits on all certificates to 5 years from the course date. Previously awarded certificates are no longer valid indefinitely. There is a 7 month Grace Period from the date of expiration. Individuals who choose to have a valid NIOSH certificate must either take a NIOSH-Approved Spirometry Refresher Course within 5 years and 7 months from their previous training or retake an initial NIOSH-Approved Spirometry Training Course. Rutgers is not responsible for any person(s) in attendance who are ineligible for the Refresher.
