Benefits:
This course focuses on OSHA standards and on the safety aspects of excavation and trenching. Students are introduced to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations. Various types of shoring (wood timbers and hydraulic) are covered. Testing methods are demonstrated and a one-half-day field exercise is conducted, allowing students to use instruments such as penetrometers, torvane shears, and engineering rods. (3 days)

This course is Offered through Zoom - Virtual Learning Platform. Students must attend the final day in-person at SPH- CPHWD, 300 Atrium Drive, Somerset, New Jersey, for the practicum. The OTI Education Center courses (OSHA # courses) are to be completed in the region the student lives/works (virtual or in-person). If you are not from New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands, please consult with the training manager at koshyko@rutgers.edu prior to registering.

This is a three-day hybrid course. The first, and second days are presented virtually in real-time through Zoom. Students must attend the third day in-person at SPH- CPHWD, 300 Atrium Drive, Somerset, New Jersey.

ALL trainees must provide proof of vaccination or negative PCR test from a test taken no more than 72 hours before start of the course (or first in-person day for hybrid courses). This will be verified at the time of sign-in.
