23rd Annual Public Health Symposium
New Skills for a New Age

New economic forces, a changing policy environment, and increasing demands to address chronic diseases are each impacting the activities of the public health workforce. These factors, along with significant impending turnover and an advancing technological environment ‹ are reshaping the demands on public health professionals.

To assure a positive impact on community health, this workforce must bolster its capacities with the skills and knowledge needed to address the social, community-based, and economic determinants of health. Strategic skills such as systems thinking, change management, and persuasive communications are essential complements its existing discipline-specific expertise.

Keynote Presenter
This year's keynote is Brian C. Castrucci, Chief Program and Strategy Officer with the deBeaumont Foundation, and convener of The National Consortium for Workforce Development, which recently published Building Skills for a More Strategic Public Health Workforce: Call to Action.

The Symposium will also include a reaction panel with public health leaders from local and national organizations.
